INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: ICT MANAGER

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Infrastructure Support Technician is responsible for supporting, developing and expanding the company’s ICT infrastructure encompassing vSphere, Windows servers, Exchange messaging, EPOS Terminals, IP Telephony& line of business applications. Implementation and support of the switching, routing and security infrastructure required to service company operations across a multi-site WAN topology. Compliance with the company BCDR requirements by ensuring information redundancy and recoverability.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ownership and progression of support tickets raised via the company helpdesk by carrying out investigative activity and where a fix is available implementing this within agreed SLA’s.
  • Where a first time fix is unavailable assigning the ticket to the area specialist and where required assisting and documenting the resolution to expand the knowledgebase / own skills.
  • Ensuring that own / unallocated open tickets are regularly reviewed and any assigned to third party technology partners are progressed.
  • Responding to user requests for account unlocks and password resets in a timely fashion.
  • Maintaining user folder and application security permissions granting and revoking access rights as requested by line management.
  • Support for the companies chosen platforms including: - Windows Server & Terminal Services. - Exchange Server. - Version 1 Product Suite (DbScanner, DbFax & DbMail). - EPOS hardware and till clients.
  • Sourcing & deployment of new and upgraded workstation hardware to support business requirements.
  • Maintaining the Active Directory user database, creating new users, associated mailboxes and distribution lists. Configuration of Group Policy as directed to support Workstation deployment and enforce the company ICT policy.
  • Manage the corporate LAN, WAN, WLAN & communication systems, including:
  • Configuration and monitoring of the LAN/WAN associated VLAN’s and WLAN’s.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

To succeed in this role the person needs:

  • Experience with virtualised infrastructure gained with ESXi and vSphere.
  • A thorough understanding of Windows Server (2008 R2 and later), Exchange Server (2010 or later preferred), Active Directory, Group Policy and Windows clients.
  • Detailed knowledge of the IP protocol and related technologies including but not limited to managed switching, firewall configuration, routing, DHCP, DNS, VPN & VLAN as deployed across a multi-site LAN/WAN topology.

In addition, the following skills would prove a distinct advantage:

  • Exposure to SQL server backup and restore.
  • Experience with Veeam backup and replication.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills (2010 or later).
  • Experience integrating Mac OSX into an Active Directory domain.
  • Some exposure to contact centre IP telephony systems would be beneficial.
